Bale and Real Madrid advance to Copa del Rey last four

Real Madrid booked their spot in the semifinals of the Kings Cup after a 3-1 win over Girona saw them triumph 7-3 on aggregate in their Copa last eight clash.

Karim Benzema scored a brace for Real at Estadi Municipal de Montilivi, with Marcos Llorente adding a third fifteen minutes from time.

Bale came on as a substitute midway through the second half (67′) for Vinicius Jr, who assisted one of Benzema’s goals on the evening.

Real’s win means that they were the only team hosting the first leg that progressed to the semifinals. The other three- Getafe, Sevilla and Espanyol were eliminated despite either winning or drawing at home in the first leg.

Apart from Real, Valencia, Betis and holders Barcelona have booked their spots in the semis.

Gareth Bale scores & assists as Real win 4-1 away at Girona

Gareth Bale scored and set up another as Real beat Girona 4-1 away from home in the league. The home side took a shock lead through Borja Garcia, and went into the break at 1-1 following Sergio Ramos’ 39th minute penalty. Real however took control in the second half, with Benzema’s double (52nd minute penalty plus 80th minute goal assisted by Bale) and Bale’s effort on the hour mark.

Bale started this game and played 87 minutes before being replaced by Lucas Vazquez.
