Bale injured, Real suffer shock loss to Alaves

Real Madrid’s scoring woes continued as Los Blancos were beaten 1-0 by tiny Alaves over the weekend- the first time in 87 years that they have lost away to the Babazorros. Alaves clinched the win thanks to a late goal from Manu Garcia that leaves Real boss Julen Lopetegui in a very precarious position. The international break could perhaps have not come at a better time for the manager, with Real winless in four games and more importantly, scoreless in those four (their worst streak since 1985)

To make matters worse for Real, star forwards Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema were both substituted due to injury. Benzema was replaced at half time by Mariano Diaz while Bale played 80 before coming off for Vincius Jr.

The injury raises doubts over Bale’s participation in Wales’ next international games- against Spain (11 October) and Ireland (16 October). He sat out training in Cardiff today (Monday), with Ryan Giggs hoping that he can recover in time for the Irish clash.

Real’s next game after the break sees them lock horns against Levante.
